  3. Application of conservation of momentum principle to organisms – Vogel Ch. 4

  4. Flow regimes of organisms – Vogel Ch. 5

  8. Forces on Organisms – Vogel Ch. 5 - 7

  9. Transport of chemical signals between organisms

  10. Hydrodynamic signals between organisms

PRESENTATIONS: You will lead the class in a discussion of a relevant journal paper. You must select a paper and bring to class a copy for each student one week before your scheduled presentation. Class members are expected to read the paper and fully engage in the discussion. The discussion period will be 10-15 minutes. The recommended topics include forces on organisms and chemical and/or hydrodynamic signals between organisms. The schedule will be determined during the semester.

PROJECTS: You will prepare a written report (5 pages maximum) about a topic relevant to this course. Again, suggested topics include forces on organisms and chemical and/or hydrodynamic signals between organisms.
