Summer 2008
Undergraduate Summer Research in Quantitative Systems Biology and Mathematical Biology

Undergraduate full-time research positions are available for Summer 2008 in the Schools of Biology and Mathematics. Students interested in interdisciplinary research experience will work in small teams, directly supervised by faculty in Biology and Mathematics.

Research areas involve the application of mathematics in diverse areas of biology, including protein phylogeny, predicting protein function from genomic data, design features of biochemical systems, neural networks and signal integration, nutrient transport in bone tissue, modeling chemical cues in predator-prey systems, population structure and scaling in plankton blooms, and sociality in insect populations.

Summer stipend:
$5,000, and travel funds are also available to attend a meeting to present results of the research project.

Eligibility:
All students majoring in Biology or Mathematics are eligible to apply. To be eligible to receive a stipend from the National Science Foundation students must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Non-U.S. citizens may participate for academic credit but cannot receive a stipend. Sophomore and Junior are encouraged to apply.

Applications are due: February 29, 2008
